Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some commonly asked questions about Playtime Academy Daycare. If you don’t see your question answered here, feel free to contact us for more information!

What ages do you serve? We care for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children. Our programs are customized to support development at every stage, from hands-on discovery for little ones to before/after-school care for older kids.

What are your hours of operation? We are open Monday through Friday from 6:30 AM to 11:59 PM, and Saturdays from 6:30 AM to 11:59 PM. We are closed on Sundays and designated holidays. Our extended hours make us a great option for families with non-traditional schedules.

Where is Playtime Academy located? We are an in-home daycare located at 2024 Dixwell St, Davenport, IA 52802.

Is Playtime Academy licensed? Yes, we are registered with the state of Iowa as a Category B home daycare, licensed to care for up to 12 children. We follow all state regulations, and an approved assistant is on site when needed for larger groups.

What is your capacity and how many spots are available? We have limited spots to maintain a family-like environment: up to 6 full-time slots (with restrictions on younger children), up to 2 part-time, and up to 4 school-age slots. Availability varies—please contact us to check current openings and schedule a free tour.

What is a typical daily schedule like? Our semi-structured days focus on play-based learning and routines. Activities include creative and independent play, singing and music, arts and crafts, mealtimes, quiet/nap time, and outdoor play (weather permitting). TV time is very limited, with occasional movie days as a special treat.

What is your approach to learning and curriculum? We believe children learn best through hands-on play and discovery in a nurturing, home-like setting. Our activities promote social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth while encouraging independence and creativity.

Do you provide meals and snacks? Parents typically provide meals and snacks, but we can discuss specific needs during your tour. We emphasize healthy eating and can accommodate allergies or preferences with advance notice.

What should I bring for my child? This depends on age—items like diapers/wipes, extra clothes, bedding for naps, and any comfort items. We’ll provide a full list during orientation.

How do you handle discipline and behavior guidance? We use positive, age-appropriate guidance with clear boundaries and routines. Our focus is on teaching and redirecting in a loving way, treating every child with respect.

What are your health and sick policies? We follow state guidelines for illness to keep everyone safe. Children must be symptom-free (e.g., no fever for 24 hours) before returning. We prioritize handwashing, cleaning, and daily health checks.

Is there a trial period or orientation? Yes! We recommend an initial meeting to get acquainted. We also offer a paid 2-week trial period so you can see if we’re the right fit—no long-term commitment if it’s not.

How do you communicate with parents? Open communication is key! We share daily updates, encourage feedback, and are always available to discuss your child’s day, progress, or any concerns.

Do you offer tours or interviews? Absolutely—tours are free and the best way to see our home-like environment in action. Contact us to schedule one!

What makes Playtime Academy unique? As a small in-home daycare, we offer a warm, family-like atmosphere where children are treated as individuals. Many families stay with us for years and even keep in touch after their kids “graduate”—we become like extended family!
